Ah the truth and a meteor should only hit about 5 feet across and not kill anything but make people fall over??? You stand under a meteor and see if a shield will help you sorry if that sounded harsh.
I play ele and always have and warriors were the hardest class to kill by far but they also did more damage over everyother class
weres the fairness in that take least damage and do the most damage
now i say give them back there tanking ability and 200ac
but remove 90% of there damage
but wait that STILL would stop there complaining
maybe we should rase there ac to 200 and double there damage
maybe that will shut them up or will it......
It was only an example but ill add more: -
Lightening Orb
Lightening Javelin
Shock Arrow - Description says it sends an arrow out...
Stone Daggers - Cant get more physical than stone and its description says they fly at you. Sounds like a shield could be used there
Stoning - Stone = Physical object
Lava Arrows
Meteor
Meteor Shower
Ice Prison - Ice = Physical
Icy Spear - Surely a warrior can use his/her shield against a spear of ice???
Ice Spikes - A spike of ice = Physical
Shard Storm - Sounds pretty physical imo
There are many other skills which it would make sense for a shield not to have dmg reduction.

I dont like this whole physical idea. A shield is used to prevent attacks against physical attacks. A meteor although an elemental attack is still physical as it is a solid object. Surely a warrior would be able to have some of the dmg absorbed/reduced by his/her shield. Same with an ice attack. Ice is a physical thing, so therefore you would expect a shield to be useful against it. Warriors shouldnt just be able to use the dmg reduction against physical only attacks as there are elemental skills which have a physical form e.g. meteor.
Shields shouldnt reduce dmg from some necro skill which has no physical form but there are elemental attacks which it would make sense for a shield to reduce.
I think striking wont work. Anet will never change it.
exactly, if you can feel water fire etc is physical so therefore it should be considered into this damage reduction. Dont post on striking threads if you not joining it lol, they only count the signeds, they dont give a rip about notsigned people, so everyone keep..
STRIKE STRIKE STRIKE STRIKE STRIKE STRIKE
/signed, almost 4K viewers, can you take the heat GW STAFF?
Yes yes! Let's all create level 1 Gnomes on Blackrock and storm the Ironforge Auction House!!!
err ... wait ... wrong game ...
/notsigned
Warriors were always meant to be walls against physical nastiness from other warriors, rangers and assassins ... but even with the loss of the damage reduction against elemental damage, 80 AL (or 90 AL with Full Plate) + 16 AL Shield + Stances, Signets and Shouts that boost AL, a well played tank can shrug off most elemental attacks, although not as effectively as they do physical ones.
And yes, it is a boost to elementalists for the most part as the other non-physical dealing classes specialize in unsoakable damage (not counting mods or spirits that convert). You want to hear fear in a warrior's voice, you drop some necros and mesmers in his path, not elementalists. You use elementalists to spike important squishies at range.
This may also boost Rangers a bit as they can now finally be recognized as the primary target to draw fire from elementalists.

I'm not a rich GW player, i'm not a hardcore "farmer" and when I managed, after MANY hours of farming, to get my -2/-2 sheild which cost alot, to find out that it was now useless, I now feel like i've been stolen from... Some say, meh, get over it... Personally, I think this was silly on ANet's behalf...
I am trying to organize a warrior strike, they nerfed all out awsome shields that were -2 dmg and made them -2 dmg against physical dmg, of which all our armor is bassed off of!!! all dmg reduction, shields, knights armor, absorbsion runes all are just against physical dmg!!!!
lets see how bad this is.... i run -7 dmg vs everything, or i did that is.... now, only vs physical dmg.... my base armor is 80 armor each piece and each piece has + 20 armor vs physical.... nothing offered for elemental resistance....
Any warrior will agree, eles, necros, and what not, doing spikes always are warriors biggest threats....
Rangers have spirits that turn physical dmg into ele dmg... nothen for vice versa....
now, ppl r going to say, -7 dmg isnt that much, ok, u get 5 ppl (eles) hitting u with 20 dmg each... or each doing 13 dmg from reduction that isnt available now, they hit u 5 times each... 500 dmg or 325 dmg, that measly little -7 realy adds up???..... GOOD BYE TANKING!
I recommend
1 - they either make the dmg reduction vs elemental dmg
2 - they change it out to the way it was
3 - they make a low eng spirit that turns all elemental dmg into physical dmg....
anyone interested in agreeing with me, leave post here
So you are mad about you arent able to survive 5(!!!) players spiking the .. eh.. brain out of you? Ok, that is just hilarious.
Oh, and you got 80 armor against Elemental dmg, it's not like you are completely worthless - You still got the the largest dmg output, right?
Muahahahah... LOW ENG SPIRIT TURNS ELEMENTAL DMG INTO PHYSICAL? Ouch, so now a firestorm will actually trigger stuff like Orders?
And why would a Ranger(Dont really think it fit a Rit or any other class) get a spirit that makes them loose 30 armor?

I know this is a little bit against what i said against Rangers, but this is not about what makes sense, but about BALANCE.
Should Warriors Gladiator set make him more vulnerable where there is no armor? That would make sense in real life.

I went there to compare damage pre update/ post update.
Actually, level DOES affect damage output, critical hit rate increases versus lower level foes.

I'll have to try this out, sounds fun! *sets status to "Do Not Disturb" and runs to KC*
On topic, this update makes me not want to play warrior, so I guess I was on strike already.
This is not a problem with me ...... If playing my warriors will be so unfun/upsetting after I spent almost an years of playing to get them nice armours, well.....I wont play GWs anymore, after all there are plenty of other games around!
Games should be funny and enjoyable, shouldn't get anyone upset!
Believe it or not, I read this thread completely, top to bottom, beginning to end.
First of all, a note about trolls.
Please ban Ira Blinks, Evilsod, Annacloud9 and especially Relnor. They have done nothing to contribute to this thread, problem or whatever. They just make fun of people and make them mad.
About warriors
A WARRIOR IS SUPPOSED TO RUN IN AHEAD OF EVERYONE ELSE!
In general PvE you'll want the warriors be their own little squad with the backline rangers, casters and assassins in a bigger squad in the back (backline duh)
The majority of people who posted here so far do not understand the concept of tanking. And that is no problem, since nobody else does either, except me and maybe 2 or 3 other people on this forum.
Because so little people know how it works, real warriors, good ones, they can't do their thing and end up fighting side by side with some monk who screams for a bodyguard.
About monks
If you need to rest for energy and you're an ele then that's ok... but if you're a monk and need to rest for energy then by Aresien TAKE OFF THE DUAL -1/+15energy items.
Or delete your monk since you're an idiot who would rather blame someone else for failing (like blame the warrior).
This is a teamgame, if you fail, blame the team, not the warrior.
Monks do not need to regen in-between battles because the mobs are spaced so far apart, I can regen FROM ZERO TO MAX by simply walking from one mob to the next. And this is on every single freaking map in factions and especially prophecies. In prophecies, mobs are so far apart from eachother you're basically running a marathon.
If you're a monk and you need to regen, tell you warrior to join my team instead because I do NOT need to regen. IGN: Don Zardeone
(btw, ever heard of energy management?)
The amount of stupidity in this thread is mind-exploding, really.
About Knights/ascalon armour.
Before this update, the knights and ascalon sets were useless. I didn't check the numbers yet but they may still be useless now since 10 or 20 more al from dreads or sentinel armour should reduce the same amount of damage, if not more (+it is vs everything).
So knights/ascalon full set = still nubskinarmour
I always expected a change or fix like this. I'm therefore happy I never bought the 1.5mil version of my ascalon boots.. I only got the 15k version. Those who got 1.5mil will probably be pissed... not because they wasted money but because they have to go down to the forgemaster AGAIN >.<
Again, the knights/ascalon thing doesn't really matter.
About the vs everything reduction that has become vs physical only
I have to agree with ANet on the fact that warriors had it extremely easy in factions. A lot of monsters use extremely crappy attacks. With my dreadknights armourset with shield and everything.. I took basically no damage.
If anyone ever played Dynasty Warriors then that is kind of like it was. Mow through everything while taking little damage.
This is exactly how I mowed through the campaign with henchies.
However. There's always a however...
Traditional, highly efficient tanking, might be gone now.
A tank is supposed to gather the aggro and hold it.
Once he has it then the other people in the team heal the tank, kill the monsters and have a chat.
Now, the initial gathering of the monsters may be a problem already. I say -may- because I haven't tested it yet. The warrior will be taking craploads more elemental damage.
7 more damage from one source is laughabale. 7 more damage from multiple sources is a major problem. A tank will face that problem 100% of the time.
However (yes another however), this is a teamgame and someone in the team should be bringing some defenses against elemental damage.
The tank himself can, as W/Me, bring elemental defense. He could just raise his al to huge levels.
It is possible to adapt, yes, but it will probably require more teamwork than before.
PuGs however, will suck harder than ever before.
The previously good warriors will probably figure something out. The previously bad warriors will probably become worse.. or not, I mean, they had 5 super vigors or 5 super absorbs on their armour to begin with.
I am going to strike anyway... why? Because this nerf doesn't make any sense.
Since when is a meteor pure elemental? There's a physical rock in there (not all meteors are huge btw). I can use a shield and bounce the rock off of me.
And elemental damage itself... It isn't magical. It is elemental.
If I were to wear armour, wouldn't it keep me dry? Protect me from burns? Protect me from flying bricks? Protect me from ... AIR?
The magicians in GW are the ritualists, mesmers and necros. Elemental hits should be reduced by armour just like the slashing and blunt hits are.
This brings le to the point where I believe that these reductions were a balancing tool all along. But if I were to explain all that then I'd be writing essays...
